Can opposites really attract?

A robbery followed by the discovery of a forgery at a respected art gallery thrusts Chelsea Owens into the center of an investigation headed by Detective Sam Eldridge. The instant chemistry between the high-spirited aspiring curator and the tall, dark, brooding cop is a classic case of opposites attract.

Complications arise when Chelsea uncovers a connection to an unsolved art heist. Teaming up with Sam to find the stolen paintings ignites feelings that could lead to lasting love. But Sam isn’t ready to move beyond the tragedy in his past, no matter how promising his future with Chelsea could be…

Anyone who loves art will be intrigued by Kate James’ romance novel, A Priceless Find, as she takes us to the small town of Camden Falls via Chelsea Owens. An employee of Sinclair Art Gallery, she’s one of the first on the scene when the jewelry store next door  is robbed early one morning. But what was the motive? Little was taken, and many valuable pieces are left behind. That’s what the police want to know, including Detective Sam Eldridge. And although he’s somewhat annoyed with the way Chelsea barges into   the crime scene to make sure the owner isn’t seriously injured, he quickly develops a soft spot for her as the investigation continues.

It’s suspected that there is a link between the jewelry store and the art gallery theft, and it could be the next target, so Sam decides to visit an art exhibit there. Running into Chelsea again, he admires her love and knowledge of art, even though he’s lacking in    those areas, and he can’t deny his attraction to her.

The case is complicated, causing suspicions to flit from one person to another, creating      a rollercoaster ride for Chelsea’s relationship with Sam, especially when she sneaks into     a warehouse filled with possibly incriminating evidence. But will it still be there when      the authorities arrive? Who can she trust? Nothing is certain in this involved novel that keeps the reader guessing until the end.

The author’s knowledge of art dealings is impressive, as she explains the channels each piece goes through before being sold, and the authentication necessary to determine that it’s not a forgery.

If you’re ready to delve into the art world with an excellent writer as your guide, pick up     a copy of  A Priceless Find.

Who would expect to wake up early in the morning during a camping trip to find that his or her son has vanished? Certainly not Sawyer Evans. The all-encompassing grief he feels as he frantically searches for Dylan conveys to the reader how much he cares for his son, and when it’s discovered that Dylan was kidnapped, suspicion immediately falls on felons Sawyer had put away years earlier as a District Attorney. It’s a double tragedy for Sawyer, since he lost his wife, Jeannette, three years earlier after she disappeared without a trace, and the question arises: Could there be a connection?

Rookie cop, Shannon Clemons, is determined to find Dylan, even while dealing with     her own haunting experience concerning a lost child, but what she doesn’t expect is her feelings for Sawyer. Is it simply because she understands his grief, or is it something more? Several scenarios seem possible concerning the plights of Dylan and Jeannette, and but Shannon keeps striving for the truth.

Kate James is a master of intrigue, and Home to Stay will keep you on the edge of your seat as she brings to light the agony of kidnappings and steps that can be taken to solve these crimes. Revealing much knowledge concerning the police department and canine search-and-rescue, she skillfully weaves it into her complex plot. For a romantic mystery that’s difficult to put down, pick up a copy of Kate James’s Home to Stay.

Can his safe haven be enough for her?

Emma Meadows never imagined that sticking to her principles against an act of corruption by a New York senator would cost her her job as VP of communications. Heartbroken, she retreats to her cottage in the Adirondacks to lick her wounds and, in the process, rescues an injured dog that only Josh Whitmore can save.

The veterinarian works diligently to bring dog and woman back to full fighting form, until allegations against the senator become more serious. Seeing Emma’s reaction to the increasing pressure, Josh realizes that inevitably she’ll find a way back to the top…and he’ll likely lose her for good.

goodreadsamazonbarnes & nobleharlequinibooks!ndigo

Kate James takes us to Sanctuary Cove via Emma Meadows–a former resident of New York City–pulling us into the story right away with her vivid descriptions. And although   it begins on a dark note, the tale soon emerges into the light after Emma meets Joshua Whitmore, a young veterinarian in the area. They’re drawn together partly because           of their love for animals, but Emma is hesitant to consider a relationship in the near future after a less-than-friendly breakup with her fiance. Unfortunately, she lost her job with a giant communications agency at the same time.

With only freelance work to support her, she’s already unsure about her future. And add    to that a complicated situation involving a senator and serious allegations, and Emma’s confidence begins to wane. A sense of danger permeates the book as the reader fears         for the safety of Emma, Josh, and others, especially when threatening phone calls are received.

But who is posing the danger? Is it the senator’s people or Josh’s ex-girlfriend, who couldn’t seem to let go? Either way, Emma and Josh try to work out their relationship amid these distractions while an impending trial looms over them. It’s difficult for Emma to know exactly who to believe and trust, but she’s determined to hold onto her values.

Throughout the book, we’re treated to descriptions of Emma’s property, which consists      of a forested area complete with a river and lake, and we get an idea of how much nature means to her, Josh, and their dogs. It has a great calming effect on them, and Emma wonders if she can leave it if she has to return to the city to find work.

Sanctuary Cove is a gripping story involving right and wrong, and the love of nature and animals. I would highly recommend this suspense-filled adventure to anyone who is looking for a well-written book that’s intriguing until the end.

Mixing it Up

Born with a silver spoon in her mouth, Manhattan upper-cruster Cecily Sinclair now uses that pricey utensil to dish up fancy French fare on her cooking show, Serving Romance. When there’s an executive shake-up at the network, she’s not worried. Not much anyway. Her show’s a hit after all. Why would the new CEO want to mess with success?

The driving force behind several buzzed-about networks, Devlin Hayes is considered to be a wunderkind in the television industry. Although his plans to rebrand CuisineTV and make Serving Romance more Millennial-friendly don’t thrill Cecily, her charming, blue-eyed boss is a hard man to say “no” to and she really wants to keep her job—even if that means sharing screen time with a loathsome blast from her past.

Mercurial Italian chef Dante Marchetti a.k.a. “Il Duce” was once Cecily’s boss, and she has the PTSD to prove it. Now the owner of one of the hottest restaurants in town, Dante’s egomania knows no bounds and his constant attempts to provoke and upstage Cecily make her want to conk him on the head with a sautééé pan. She thinks they’re toxic together, but viewers love their chemistry and clamor for more.

As Cecily battles to maintain the integrity of her show, she finds herself scheming and manipulating right along with Dante and Devlin. Is she fighting a lost cause? Does she really belong on TV, or would her culinary talent be better served elsewhere? And could one of the men who makes Cecily’s blood boil ignite a passion in her for something other than food?

rsz_smauthorheadshot An avid reader and writer, Tracie Banister has been scribbling stories since she was a child, most of them featuring feisty heroines with complicated love lives like her favorite fictional protagonist Scarlett O’Hara. Her work was first seen on the stage of her elementary school, where her 4th grade class performed an original holiday play she penned. (Like all good divas-in-the-making, she also starred in and tried to direct the production.)

Tracie’s dreams of authorial success were put on the backburner when she reached adulthood and discovered that she needed a “real” job in order to pay her bills. Her career as personal assistant to a local entrepreneur lasted for 12 years. When it ended, she decided to follow her bliss and dedicate herself to writing full-time. Mixing It Up is her fourth Chick Lit release, and in it Tracie finally got to live out her fantasy of being a Cordon Bleu-trained chef.

The Shoe Box Room

My freshman year in college, I was stuck in the dorm’s basement with two roommates      and three suite mates. That wouldn’t have been so bad if we hadn’t all shared one bathroom, and my roommates (who never studied) hadn’t stayed up late every night.          My best friend was also in an undesirable roommate situation, so we decided to ask for        a room together for our second semester. Unfortunately, there was only one available, which would have been fine if it had been larger than a shoe box.

Of course, it wasn’t really the size of a shoe box, but that’s what we called it, since it was shaped like one, and about half the size of a regular dorm room. And instead of the usual four-poster beds, the room contained bunk beds. Nevertheless, we were desperate, and we really wanted to room together, so we took it. It was actually kind of cute, with built-in desks and louvered closet doors, but there was barely enough room to turn around in. And while I didn’t mind climbing up to the top bunk, I didn’t love jumping off several times a day to answer the phone or anytime I needed something. We covered the windows with colorful curtains that matched our bedspreads, and nearly everyone who visited talked about how cute our room was.

We grew accustomed to living in such a small space, but it did have its drawbacks. Our dorm was pretty old, and each room was heated by radiators. This was okay most of the time, but occasionally they would bang at night, keeping us awake, and a couple of times   the room became so hot, we woke up in the middle of the night and found that our solid makeup had melted! We realized our little room couldn’t handle that much heat, so we turned the radiator off before going to bed. With heat already built up and warm rooms on either side, we were cozy all night.

We had our own bathroom across the hall, which was nice, but it was old fashioned, with a clawfoot tub requiring a stopper. We were all right with that,  but sometimes girls a couple of doors down from us stole our toilet paper instead of going downstairs to ask our dorm mother for some. It wasn’t such a big deal, but we got tired of it–especially since they taunted us from time to time.

All in all, we loved our little room, and we have pleasant memories from that semester,     but we didn’t love it enough to ask for it our sophomore year. We moved downstairs to a spacious yellow room with real furniture, but we’ll always remember our adorable shoe box room with bunk beds.

Suffering an airboat accident, Stanley and Maggie Cummings leave their mostly unconscious tour guide at an abandoned cabin and wander around Everglades National Park, seeking help. Constantly amazed by the one and a half million acres, complete with dangerous wildlife, they face the greatest challenges of their lives, including one they never expected.

Review: SCTiger78

“Lost in the Everglades” draws readers in at a leisurely pace and sets an easily recognizable tone in the excitement at the prospect of leaving everyday stresses behind and traveling to an unfamiliar locale, just as the main characters do. Almost without notice tension sets in, quickly followed by fear and outright panic; it is impossible to stop reading until the fate of Stanley and Maggie Cummings is revealed. Clearly, the author has a working knowledge of the wildlife and ecosystems of the Everglades. She skillfully uses imagery and vivid descriptive details, but not at the expense of realism. No part of the story is so far-fetched that it could not happen in everyday life; perhaps that is what makes it frightening. Pleasantly surprising is that this forty-three-page short story is completely free of profanity and sexual innuendo, a rarity in today’s market. Although the characters in this story are adults, Rogers could make a few alterations and easily expand her fan base to include young adults; YA readers love the type of peril this story offers. Regardless of the audience, it is clear that Dale Rogers is a talented writer with much to contribute, especially for those who are looking for wholesome entertainment of substance and quality. I highly recommend “Lost in the Everglades” to any and all readers.

Review: Grantland

Lost in the Everglades is a wonderful short story. It begins with a married couple, Maggie and Stanley, who take a vacation from their stress-filled life in Philadelphia. They are expecting a relaxing trip to south Florida, but a series of events pitch them into a difficult situation. Their circumstances seem to improve when they meet a man named Sam, but, as the plot continues, they meet with difficulty, then with a life-threatening conundrum. The author seems to have researched the area well. Her descriptions are thorough, and her plot development is masterful. I came to know and then embrace her principal characters. But I most appreciated a plot resolution which blended into positive life changes for the main characters. I highly recommend this short story for those who are looking for adventure in the context of what some would call a “clean read.” It is part of a larger Solstice collection (Let’s Have Fun), or may be purchased individually.

Review: Karen Rock

I adored this wonderful anthology of stories themed for the Summer Solistice. It’s the perfect blend of faith and nature; uplifting and exciting reads. I particularly loved Dale S. Rogers novella LOST IN THE EVERGLADES for it’s fast-paced suspense that kept me on the edge of my seat and the incredible descriptions of the Everglades that were so vivid and rich in authentic detail that I felt as though I was riding shotgun beside likeable characters Maggie and Stanley. I couldn’t put this down and can’t wait to read more from this very talented author. Five Stars!

When I Found You

On Tour with Prism Book Tours

When I Found You is the story of San Diego Police Department K-9 unit captain Logan O’Connor, who readers were introduced to in the first two books of the trilogy, and Ariana Atkins, chief of security and loss prevention at San Diego’s international airport. Of course, a K-9 trilogy book has to have a furry, four-legged character, too, and in When I Found You, that character is Logan’s explosives detection dog, Boomer.

Although Heartwarming books are about happy-ever-afters, they also have emotional depth, are intellectually satisfying, and have the right amounts of humor, drama or action, depending on the book. In each of the three books of my trilogy, I’ve tried to introduce a current, socially-relevant issue for my characters to contend with. In When I Found You, these issues include terrorism, and aviation passenger safety and security. Here’s an interesting fact: explosives detection dogs are far more effective at   identifying bombs than trace detection devices, and they cost a lot less, too.

It would be wonderful if you could join me for some if not all of the fun stops for this tour. If you do, please leave a comment or two along the way. And if you get a chance to read When I Found You, I truly hope you enjoy it and I would love to hear from you.

Best wishes and happy reading!

Is she part of the solution…or the problem?

It could be a terrorist threat. Or is it some other sinister plot? An unprecedented rash     of security breaches at San Diego’s international airport is putting passengers at risk and bringing the competence of the airport’s chief of security, Ariana Atkins, into question. With explosives the weapon of choice, police K-9 unit captain Logan O’Connor and his bomb detection dog, Boomer, might be Ariana’s best, if not only, line of defense. Logan is certain his belief in Ariana, and his growing love for her, aren’t misplaced…but it wouldn’t be the first time he’s misjudged someone’s intentions.

My Review

When chief of security Ariana Atkins learns that a Boeing 767 is on its way back to the San Diego International Airport shortly after takeoff, there’s no way she can predict all that would transpire in the next few days. And neither could the two young women who caused the plane headed for Barbados to turn around. The first question in everyone’s minds was, “How did those girls get onto the plane in the first place?”

Having worked at the airport for about a year, Ariana had tightened security, so it didn’t make sense that two inebriated people would be allowed onboard the plane. And when another breach surfaces, Ariana knows something is amiss. A security video reveals that an employee is causing problems, and Ariana has no choice but to fire him for leaving       a secure door open. It was difficult for her to do, but afterward she feels sure everything is straightened out. Unfortunately, that’s not the case.

One positive result of these incidents is Ariana’s becoming acquainted with Logan O’Conner, captain of the police K-9 Unit. She feels an immediate attraction to him,     even though he’s not in the greatest of moods the day they meet, and she soon learns   that the feeling is mutual and accompanies him for drinks after his second visit to         the terminal. They hit it off right away, but Ariana keeps wondering about a phone conversation she overheard between Logan and someone name Becca. Did he already have a girlfriend?

While Ariana ponders whether or not to accept Logan’s invitation to dinner some evening, she has an opportunity to get to know him better at work. Things have settled down, but on Monday morning she finds an envelope on her desk. Thinking it’s not significant, she opens it to find a note threatening the security of the airport. Ariana has grown accustomed to idle threats, but somehow she knows this one is real.

The airport is put on alert, and Logan returns with his dog, Boomer, who’s trained to detect explosives. During the search, an explosion rocks the building. There are no injuries, but the message is received: Someone is challenging their security system.           And as the problems and investigation continue, the chance that Ariana and Logan will get together becomes even more slim. Could the jobs which brought them together ultimately keep them apart?

Kate James did an excellent job of describing airport security and K-9 operations in her riveting novel, which I would recommend to anyone who wants an exciting read along with romance.
